Those children’s talents help them develop themselves in case they use them appropriately

Children rehabilitated from street by Caritas Kigali’s Abadacogora-Intwari get courses in Arts to help them to progress.

Caritas Kigali’s director, Father Donatien Twizeyumuremyi says that after rehabilitating children they send them back to school without forgetting to apply them Art courses to develop their talents.

He assures that those children’s talents help them develop themselves in case they use them appropriately.

“We need nothing else than seeing children changing behaviors. They are talented children, we try to help them to develop their talents” says Father Twizeyumuremyi.

Those talents help children change mindset and behaviors, progress and develop their self-esteem.

Those talents include traditional and modern dances, drama writing and acting, fashion, drawing and dolls making among others.

Art courses that are offered to former street children are designed for children between 7 and 21 years old who earn money to improve their lives thanks to those arts.

The 2015 research report on behavior changing among children who were trained in writing dramas and acting, indicates that children acting in dramas about their personal life change behaviors quickly and feel confident, as they get chance to expose their thoughts and feelings based on their life on street.

In 2016 drama courses were offered to 120 former street children rehabilitated by Abadacogora-Intwari centers, and the courses took 3 months.

Forty children from primary and secondary schools followed training in drawing and designing, while 30 children were trained in fashion, and 10 in dolls making.

Those children afforded to make designs on t-shirts, make dolls and showcase fashion styles designed by themselves among other things.

Gitoya Elisa who got training in drawing says he started doing drawing as a profession and assures that he is earning money to improve his life.

He often earn more than 100.000Rwf on a monthly basis. “I’ll survive thanks to the skills I got from Abadacogora-Intwari center” he says.
